Casual Dress

Message from the chair:

IBM will sponsor our March session, and we are once again fortunate to have great support being sent to us from the IBM Labs to present timely topics on the latest releases from the Labs of DB2 V9 for z/OS and LUW.

Our keynote speaker Belal Tassi, will continue on a theme that we also had at the last meeting, Data Governance, Compliance and Security.  Belal will discuss the important tools now available that can help you lock down, comply, and govern the environment.  Following Belal, Paul Zikopoulos will visit us again from the Toronto Labs, and present the latest in IBM toolset for maintaining database servers, IBM Data Studio.

Our afternoon session will feature 2 presentations on performance from one of the most senior performance technicians in DB2 UDB for z/OS Development at the IBM Silicon Valley Laboratory in San Jose, California.  Akira Shibamiya will present DB2 9 Application performance and DB2 9 System performance.

Please join us for a very informative day, and please pass the information onto co-workers and fellow DBAs.  We are in great need of new members and remember, PRE-REGISTRATION IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!!  Pre-registering helps the board to better plan for handouts and food, so please try to pre-register for our sessions.  See you at Dave & Busters!

First Morning Presentation

Data Governance, Compliance and Security - The tools to help you sleep at night.

Belal Tassi, IBM Corporation

If you're like most administrators, worrying about data server security, regulatory compliance, and data governance issues are not exactly how you would like to spend your time. However, with the growing volume and importance of your data has come an ever increasing number of data breaches, and important government and industry regulations - such as

PCI-DSS - that affect your data servers. So worrying is exactly what is happening.

But it does not need to be this way. This session will address the increasingly vital topic of data governance and discuss the important tools now available that can help you:

1) Securely lock down your DB2 data server

2) Comply with important regulatory requirements such as the auditing, encryption, retention, and privacy of your data

3) Effectively govern your information throughout its complete life cycle - from test to production to test to archive.

You can't afford to miss this session - not if you want to worry less and relax more!

Speaker:

Belal Tassi, B.Sc., B.ESc, M.A.Sc., P. Eng., is a member of the DB2 Technical Evangelist Team at IBM.  He spends most of his time teaching DB2 customers, business partners, and IBM technical sales people the world over get more out of DB2. He has over 10 years of experience working with DB2 at the IBM Toronto Lab, including as a developer for DB2 for LUW versions 5 through 8.2, as an architect and development lead for the IBM Balanced Warehouse, and as a technical leader in the area of Data Governance. Belal has spoken at many industry conferences, authored the book "Information on Demand: Introduction to DB2 9.5 New Features", written over half a dozen DB2 technical whitepapers, and has been granted two software patents for innovations he incorporated into DB2. He is a certificated DB2 Solutions Expert, and a certified Linux administrator (LPIC-1). He enjoys spending as much time as possible with his two children - Malik and Layal – and views the concept of 'free time' as just a dim memory. He can be reached at:  tassi.ibm@gmail.com.

Second Morning Presentation

IBM Data Studio: A New Tool Set, A New World of Productivity

In late 2007, IBM introduced a new toolset for IBM data servers: IBM Data Studio.  From business logic generation, to administration, to point-and-click Web services, this tool can do it all.  What's more, various add-ins are available that take Java to new heights, performance, regulatory compliance and more.  If you work with DB2, you can't afford to miss this overview of the new IBM toolset - including live demos...
