Morning Presentation
Gregg Lippa, Themis Inc.
DB2
had begun to incorporate XML features prior to DB2 9, but has now become a real
leader in XML support. This presentation reviews the basics of XML and XPath
expressions, discusses the benefits and uses of XML in a DB2 database, and
covers the XML-related features of DB2 9 in detail, including the new XML data
type and the DB2 functions that support it, how it is supported in COBOL and
Java programming environments, its impact on indexing, and an overview of its
support for validation. If you are considering using XML in your DB2
environment, this session will give you an understanding of the potential benefits
and pitfalls and a great jumpstart to understanding what is available in DB2.
Speaker:
Gregg
Lippa is currently a Senior Technical Advisor at Themis Inc. He teaches
DB2-related courses on SQL, Application Programming, and optimization,
performance and tuning as well as Java, J2EE, distributed computing and
Java-related topics. Gregg has worked with DB2 as a consultant and trainer for
over 20 years and with Java for 10 years.
