REMEMBER CASUAL DRESS
Message from the chair:
IBM will sponsor our June session, and will present topics
on the latest releases from the Labs of DB2 V9 for z/OS and LUW (otherwise
known as Viper). It will be two years in
June since we had this kind of a session, and we are once again fortunate to
have great support being sent to us from the IBM Labs to present this timely
information.
Our keynote speaker this time is no stranger in the DB2 world. Roger Miller, from the Silicone Valley Labs, has a quarter century on DB2 development, product design and strategy, and is taking his new V9 show on the road to many user groups, and is stopping to see us on his sweep of the tri-state area. His presentations are always very informative and he is always full of real world Customer experience stories that he can share with us. Our DB2 UDB speaker, Dwaine R Snow, from UDB Labs at IBM Canada has been with DB2 for many years also and is currently the senior project manager for DB2 UDB. Leon Katsnelson, Program Director, also from UDB Labs at IBM Canada, will follow Dwaine.
Please join us for a very informative day and get a great
start on the weekend with an early Friday dismissal to enjoy the great Spring
weather! REMINDER: PRE-REGISTRATION IS
HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!! In an effort to
better plan for handouts and food, we are urging the membership to please try
and pre-register for our sessions. See
you at Dave & Busters!

DB2 z/OS Vnext
Roger Miller, IBM Corp.
The vision for Vnext
is to enhance DB2's ability to handle new and enterprise applications. Vnext
improves the ability to handle new applications with XML, large objects, and
many SQL and security improvements. Vnext builds upon and extends DB2
traditional strengths and the ground-breaking Version 8 in many areas: online
schema evolution, Unicode, XML, DB2 family SQL, utilities, security and 64-bit
virtual storage. While V7 and V8 removed many SQL differences from DB2 for
Linux, UNIX & Windows, Vnext takes the next big step to improved
consistency. Utility enhancements help with new function, more LOB and XML
support, better performance and improved availability, removing the BUILD2 step
from online reorg.
Speaker:
Roger Miller has
worked more than a quarter century on DB2 development, product design and
strategy. He often helps customers to use the product, answers many questions
and presents frequently to user groups. He was a customer for ten years before
working on many facets of DB2, ranging from overall design issues to SQL,
languages, install, security, audit, standards, performance, concurrency, and
availability. We sometimes call him a jack of all DB2 trades and a master of
several. His favorite response is, “It depends.”
DB2 Viper
Dwaine Snow, IBM Corp.
Come
and hear about the new features of Viper.
This session will briefly explain the key features of Viper, and will
then discuss first hand customer experiences using these new features in the
closed beta and Viper test drive.
Speaker:
Dwaine Snow is a senior
product manager for DB2 UDB for Linux, UNIX, and Windows. He started in DB2 as a programmer, but has
also worked in the customer support team and the lab services team before
joining the product management team. He works on product strategy, planning,
development, writing, and helping customers to use the product with a focus on
performance, availability, ease of use, and security.
Building SOA Applications with DB2
Leon Katsnelson, IBM Corp.
SOA is the latest buzzword in IT. The pundits would
let you believe that SOA is nothing short of a revolution and you will have to
acquire the whole new skill set and computing infrastructure. We in DB2 believe
that SOA is indeed a revolution but it is one for which DB2 is already
architects for. This presentation will
describe how you can get started with SOA with the DB2 infrastructure and skill
that you have today. Learn how to expose information as a service to SOA
applications and how to integrate data delivered by web services in to DB2.
Speaker:
Leon
Katsnelson is Program Director in the DB2 Competitive Technologies area for IBM
at the IBM Toronto Lab. He is a recognized expert in the areas of DB2
Application Development and DB2 Connect.
