Message from the chair:

According to our contacts, Version 8 is still a hot item, and many people are still on the move to migrate to it.  This session will help both future and existing V8 installations as we hear more about set up and planning, and share implementation experiences with fellow DVDUG members.  Phil Grainger is no stranger to DB2, having been with it since DB2 Version 1, and if you haven’t been fortunate enough to hear Phil speak at IDUG, this will be an excellent local venue to catch him on his fly through the PA, NY, and NJ area.

Please note that we will not be having another meeting before the end of the year, this meeting will be you last chance this year to come out for a day away from the office with your DVDUG colleagues, and share experiences.

See you at Dave & Busters!

Meeting Overview

DB2 Version 8 for z/OS - In Depth

Phil Grainger, Computer Associates

Now that Version 8 of DB2 for z/OS is available, it is perhaps time to revisit all of the new functionality that this release delivers. In terms of new code, there is more here than in the previous THREE biggest releases of DB2 combined, so we're in for a wild ride.

This presentation spends a whole day looking at version 8, from the new issues of the migration process (the 3 modes of DB2) through extensions to existing features and delivery of brand new functionality.

From on-line schema evolution, through table based partitioning, to Unicode object names, it's all here.

Speaker:

Phil Grainger, Computer Associates

Phil has over 18 years experience of DB2, starting work all those years ago in 1987 with DB2 Version 1.2. Since then he has worked with all versions, including Version 8. From his beginnings as a DBA for one of the largest users of DB2 in the UK, through his time at PLATINUM technology and including his present role as Product Manager for Computer Associates line of DB2 solutions, Phil has always been a keen supporter of user groups and is a regular speaker at both CA sponsored and independent events, as well as being the Computer Associates representative on the European IDG Planning Committee.

Phil’s focus for the last few years has been both with an international view as to the usage of DB2 as well as helping to guide the development of PLATINUM and now Computer Associates extensive range of DB2 tools.

In addition, Phil is a regular contributor to the IDUG sponsored DB2-L discussion list.
